His love is bigger than you and me

July 1, 2007

We went to church, and then visited with Eugene's family. We also went to the Maasai market. All these people come and set up blankets/tables with things to sell- wood carvings, shoes, jewelry, cloth, etc. As the tourists walk along, they call out to them insisting that their prices are the best. When shopping, I like to take my time, look over and item, consider the price, before buying it. At the market if you even look at something for more than 1 second they start asking if you want it. And there are no prices on anything, you have to haggle. They love to start the price high, we joked that everything costs 1500 shillings I think it was (about $12). Then you are supposed to say a really low price, at which point they will accuse you of wanting them to starve to death and tell you about their disabled child/aunt/grandma they are trying to support. Eventually you agree on a price, which is usually a bargain anyway considering.

We stayed the night at Grace's and then waited for a matatu at the Fadhili office. Finally one came and we were off for safari!!! We stopped at the Great Rift Valley:

Then we took a long, bumpy, dusty drive to the Maasai Mara. We stopped for lunch and passed a few animals on the way. Then we got to our camp sight and took our first game drive! It was incredible! We saw cheetahs (I had not seen any in 2007), elephants, impalas, wildebeest, buffalo, and giraffes.

Then we had an amazing dinner and I took an amazing hot shower!
